Dogs and cats often are often presented for abdominal
conditions that require an abdominal exploratory for
diagnostic and therapeutic reasons. Commonly treated
conditions include gastrointestinal foreign bodies, gastric
dilatation volvulous (GDV), splenic and liver masses, gall
bladder disease and urinary bladder stones. Surgery of the
thoracic or chest cavity is commonly performed.
Foreign Body (2 Golf Balls)
tumors or lung lacerations secondary to trauma may benefit
from removal of the lobe (lung lobectomy). There are several
congenital cardiac problems, vascular ring anomalies and
patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), which can be successfully
treated. Surgery of the head and neck including salivary
adenectomy for "salivary cyst" and total ear canal ablations
with bulla osteotomies (TECA) are commonly performed.
